On Thursday, July 28, Caltrans and SANDAG will open the southbound State
Route 125 (SR 125)
to westbound State Route 905 (SR 905) connector in Otay Mesa to traffic.
The connector is the final link for the South San Diego County roadway
network, improving
mobility and creating seamless connections for South County residents
and travelers between
nearby communities and the rest of the region. Currently, vehicles
traveling south from SR 125
have to exit via the Otay Mesa Road off-ramp and travel to La Media
Road to access westbound
SR 905.
This creates travel delays, disrupts traffic flow, and increases greenhouse
gas emissions
from prolonged travel times and idling vehicles at stop lights. The
new connector will provide a
direct connection between southbound SR 125 and westbound SR 905, reducing
travel times
and improving corridor mobility and accessibility.
National City is contemplating the future of a parcel of land downtown
after receiving proposals to build student housing, a mixed-used development
or a combination of both on the property. The roughly 12,000-square-foot
site, which the city has owned since the early 2000s, is composed of
a grassy field and shuttered building that once served as an education
center.
Adjacent to that is a property that was formerly The Trophy Lounge bar
and is owned by a local brokerage and development firm. The properties
are located on the edge of National City and Plaza boulevards and across
the street from Southwestern College’s Higher Education Center.
Like most California community colleges, Southwestern College does not
offer student housing, but it has explored the idea for years. In its
2018 facility’s master plan, the college district identified the National
City-owned parcels and the bar as a potential site for student housing.

Homeowners Bryan and Denee Felber have earned the title “Best in District” in the Otay Water District’s 2022 WaterSmart Landscape Contest. The 2,143 square feet of turf they converted to a drought-tolerant garden in 2015 continues to beautify the neighborhood and save water for the Chula Vista residents.
Before relandscaping, the Felbers faced the high maintenance and cost that comes with keeping a grassy lawn vibrant and green. After their yard upgrade, spray nozzles are no longer a feature in their front yard. Instead, a drip system irrigates the plants on a programmed schedule of about three days a week. When rain is expected, the system is turned off or delayed for a few days. A dry riverbed that runs across the landscape captures and directs rainfall, minimizing water runoff.
Human Resources Managers work in collaboration with department staff,
the Group Human Resources Director, and the Department of Human Resources
to plan, organize and direct human resources activities for a department,
which include recruitment, selection, classification, compensation,
payroll and personnel policies/procedures.
In addition, this position may oversee training and administrative
functions that include budgets and information technology. The
current opening is with the
Health & Human Services Agency, however, the list established
from this recruitment maybe used to fill vacancies in other departments
as they occur.
