SCEDC job creation 
through private grants

Since late last year the South County Economic Development Council has been working with partners in the region to attract transformational investment and put our communities back to work by building and strengthening systems and partnerships that bring together employers with hiring needs with other key entities to train workers with in-demand skills which leads to good paying jobs.

Utilizing the efforts of organizations focused on workforce development, job creation, community enhancement, and economic prosperity the invisible hand will not be so invisible. The goal has been to take existing programs focused on jobs of the future in the workplace and replicate them on a regional basis.

The process of aligning partners, employers, and skilled agencies in the region began as an application for the Good Jobs Grant provided by EDA.  With stiff national competition for the small number of grants being issued the SCEDC took this application and began socializing it with large foundations.  The response has been tremendous.

We are happy to say we have secured the first granting partner in Bank of American and are in discussion on finalizing several others over the coming weeks and months.  

The foundations have been excited by the:

• Training with comprehensive partnerships between public, private, and academic sectors
• Education and workforce capacity building
• Change of perspective surrounding high growth industries
• Increased awareness of good paying jobs and career pathways available her in South County

As the funding and awareness of these programs grows, we will keep you informed of how we can partner to ensure the workforce of tomorrow starts here in South County.
